The Alcove - Dining pod

Concept:
The concept was based on the idea of Indian minimalism. It is the craft of India, capturing the richness of Indian details in a simple, casual manner, reducing the complexity to its core ideation and intention.
We were tasked at designing an outdoor dining pavilion, that would nod to an Indian dining experience without being objectively Indian. The client wanted the food to be the focal point of the experiencewhile sitting outside in a pavilion surrounded by plants enhancing the deep tropical feel of Tanzania.

Outcome:
The design then led us to a pod with a steel frame that would be softened by cane lathes as a ceiling, soft light would dapple through playing on the surfaces and guests a like while they dine. To add to this striped fabric was hung in the centre of the lounging space this would further soften the space and add a visual character while breaking the consistency of the environment.
Seating types were allocated to allow for a large booth seating as well as standard dining seating and lounging space. The booth seat took inspiration from traditional Indian daybeds in its depth and styling while tassels to the bolsters and seat fronts would create a strong nod to India. The seating was done in this way to allow for a multi-use environment that could change according to the needed function & pax count.
